The Black Box Series are mixed media sculptural boxes and relief painting on cabinets that create my exploration and the use of three dimensional and unconventional materials. The narratives are my interpretations and reactions to issues in the America such as housing, discrimination, racism, mass incarceration, migration, political issues, and the many stories that make America, America. The forms and symbols can communicate our life, our past and the present. The drawers and cabinets suggest the opening and closing, putting away, making choices, hiding, and containment of truths and problems, solutions, reality and dialogues. The map of the U.S. is recurring in many of the compositions, America is the main character and the stories are what we are exposed to and have become the makeup of our live. Hopefully the black Boxes with create verbal meaningful dialogue needed to move forward, heal, and find solutions to the question and the many issues.
