The Black Box Installation
The Black Box Installation is a narrative based on being “In between”. This current state of the U.S.A. is situated somewhere between two extremes or categories that have divided the United States of America to uncertainty and negativity of growth. The repurposed boxes and cabinets are my interpretations and reactions to issues such as housing, discrimination, racism, mass incarceration, migration, and other issues that make America -America.
The wood drawers and cabinets suggest the opening and closing, containment of truths, realities, solutions, and dialogues. The map of the U.S. is recurring in the compositions, which makes it the main character and the chosen symbols hopefully create interest and dialogue to move forward, heal, and find solutions to problems we all face nationally.
